At Vegan Chocolat we offer a great range of vegan chocolate. Whether you are a professional baker, chocolatier, patisserie chef, confectioner, ice cream maker, home baker of your favourite chocolate cake or simply just have a love and passion for chocolate, then we have something suitable for your needs.

Plamil is the original vegan chocolate producer, so we have over 40 years’ experience in manufacturing dairy free chocolate. Of course, today our Vegan Chocolat range is crafted with care in a controlled environment to exclude all allergens.

We only purchase cocoa that is certified, having been grown to Rainforest Alliance standards which prohibits forced labour, child labour and other forms of modern day slavery in agricultural supply chains.

We passionately believe in producing food that is made to the highest standards possible. It is important to us to manufacture with high environmental standards so all our chocolate is made in the UK in our own specialist factory, giving us control over every aspect of production.

Supplying some of the world's most talented and exciting food innovators, manufacturers, caterers, retailers and wholesalers, Vegan Chocolat has something for all chocolate professionals.

We are always busy in our development kitchen, so look out for additional new varieties coming soon. We also develop many additional varieties, certifications or formats of free from chocolate with industry partners. Our History

Click through our slideshow and discover our history since our roots began in 1943.

1940's

In 1943 Leslie Cross starts the conversation to create a non dairy vegetarian group.  The following year the Vegan Society is formed by Cross with Donald Watson, Arthur Ling and others.  Watson becomes the first President of the Society with Cross as Vice President.  Ling later becomes President.

1950's & 1960's

Leslie Cross, Arthur Ling and others start the Plantmilk Society and after years of research and development by 1957 make the UK’s first plant milk from cabbage. By the early 1960s the Plantmilk Society becomes Plantmilk Ltd and starts to make soya milk. 

1970's

Plamil purchase a former dairy as their first company owned factory. 

The company name is shortened to Plamil Foods Ltd as other vegan products are produced.  The Plamil vegan range is stocked in Health Food stores across the country. 

1980's & 1990's

In the early 1980s Plamil started making chocolate as it was proving impossible to find chocolate without milk contamination.  The company invented vegan milk and white chocolate alternatives.


Plamil produce the UK’s first certified Organic Chocolate.  They also start to make no added sugar varieties. The company chooses to power its factory with renewable energy.

2020's

Over seven decades Plamil have been at the forefront of vegan and free from food innovation.  After 40 years of providing dairy free chocolate to businesses around the world, Plamil launch the Vegan Chocolat website.

The company CEO, Adrian Ling has been vegan since birth and is often described as the vegan Willy Wonka.  He is passionate to continue to uphold, develop and promote the vegan standards set out by his father Arthur Ling and the others who started the vegan movement.
